Skilled Migration to Australia
The skilled migration stream is the greatest contributor to the overall Australian Immigration programme. It's aim is to attract to Australia migrants who are highly skilled and employable in occupations where it has been identified that there is a shortage in the Australian workforce.
The skilled migration stream consists of a number of complex skills visa classes most of which have 3 elements, an assessment of your level of skill in your occupation, basic personal attributes, and the "points test".
Skilled Immigration Points Test
Nearly all of the visas for skilled immigration to Australia are subject to the Points Test. With this Points Test you are awarded points for various attributes which include age, English language ability, amount of relevant work experience etc. You have to achieve a total that is equal to or greater than the pass mark in order for your application for a skills visa to be considered.
Occupations in Demand for Skilled Immigration to Australia
Within the skilled Immigration list of occupations there are a number that have been identified where there is a particularly acute shortage among the Australian work force, these are known as the "Migration Occupations in Demand", such occupations are listed below. The content can change from time to time but the ones listed here are current from 9 August 2007.
When applying for skilled migration to Australia you can receive additional points for the points test if your occupation is on the list at the time your application is assessed. Further points can be earned if you have a job offer in such an occupation.
All of this helps you achieve the pass mark for skilled immigration to Australia.
